How shall we classify jello?  Solid or Liquid?  Post your opinion and support it scientifically for 5 pts extra credit.

  1. i believe that jello is neither a solid nor a liquid, it is a hydrogel, a non-newtonian substance that reacts like both a liquid and a solid. it is commonly made by heating a processed collagen and adding water. since jello doesn't act like a newtonian fluid it is not.

  2. i say that jello is a liquid since when you apply pressure to it you finger (or the substance you put on it) will sink right in.also even in its most solid state(after being made)the slightest energy wave will shake the delicious dessert. unless by jello you meant the mix that you mix with water before you mix it. then it is a solid.

  3. Jello is both.
It is a combination of solids and liquids, resulting in a mixture of the two.
It moves freely, and can form itself to the shape of its surrounding, like a liquid
But at the same time, it has a set shape and volume, like a solid.
It has characteristics of both groups.

  4. I dont think jello is either a solid or a liquid. Before the powder is mixed with the water, the powder is a solid. But after the powder is mixed with the water and then heated up it will become a liquid. But if its frozen it is no longer a liquid. The scientific word for this is called a " colliod".

  5. i think jello is a liquid because it only holds it shape when it is in a container. in the video when the jello falls it changes shape which means it cant be a solid. Also, it might not be a very thin liquid but because it doesnt hold its shape it cant be a solid. Also, if you hold a solid rick in your hand it wont seep through your fingers. If you hold jello in your hand it will seep through your fingers.

  6. I think that jello can be both a liquid and a solid. Immediately after the powder is mixed into water, jello is a liquid that takes the shape, but not the volume, of its container. After being cooled, jello becomes a solid that does not take the shape or volume of its container.

  7. I think that jello starts out as a liquid (when you mix the powder with the water). Then, as it sits in the refridgerator overnight, and it "hardens" (or I guess it jellos, there really isn't an adjective for this that I know of) into a solid. It is then solid, not liquid because if you drop it, it holds it's shape (or if you drop it from high enough, many shapes).
